In decorating there is an ongoing cycle.
Everything old becomes new once again. Sometimes even literally.
Like reclaimed wood decor.
Maybe it's the patina and colors and textures.
Maybe it's because the idea of creating something beautiful out of something headed for the trash is so alluring.
Whatever the reason, reclaimed wood is on trend right now.
And here's a few decorating options for reclaimed wood.
Reclaimed wood makes everything shine a little brighter, look a little more rustic, feel a little richer.
You can add reclaimed wood to any surface. Decorate a staircase or trim or molding or ceilings or floors.
Think tables or chairs or benches or frames. Anything and everything looks better with a little reclaimed decor.
Reclaimed wood brings to mind farmhouses and rustic barns.
But it's important to note that reclaimed wood decor can fit any style including contemporary and mid-century modern.
Combine styles and textures like these reclaimed wood beams and mid-century modern table and chairs to create a look that's truly unique.
Don't stop with the interiors. Reclaimed wood is perfect for decorating the exterior of your home as well.
Create shutters or planters or fences from pieces of reclaimed wood.
Then finish off the look with planter boxes and metal urns to compliment the texture and design of the wood.
Whatever your style, whatever your space, add a little history and patina to your decor.
Decorate your space with reclaimed wood....
....and let what's old become new once again.

Outdoor patio chairs are an essential element to outdoor spring and summer fun. Remodelista has great pictures of outdoor patios sporting a variety of outdoor furniture styles that are sure to inspire, showing that even the smallest deck or patio can become a functional and festive space if you know how to make the most of it
I’m a fan of simple outdoor furniture, and minimalist chairs are divine for dining.
If you opt for a clean, white palette, make sure the material can easily be washed or wiped down. White can look pure until the grit and grim of everyday use defiles your modern mojo.
1. Zuo Silverstrand White Outdoor Chair.
Wood is another classic choice for outdoor patio chairs. Teak tends to be the most durable, and can come in both contemporary or traditional styles.
The main thing to remember when contemplating wood is that it can be heavier and more challenging to move around the yard.
2. Set of 2 Amazonia Nelson Eucalyptus Easy Carver Patio Chairs.
Basic black patio chairs are great for hiding dirt and stains! Black chairs also have a very modern aesthetic and pop against basic concrete.
You can also stay somewhat economical if you choose chairs with removable canvas.
3. Zuo Golden Beach Outdoor Aluminum Armchair.
Folding chairs have been around forever. They are so popular because they are easy to move and store. Furthermore when they are folded they take up less space which is great for city dwellers or folks with small yards.
Bistro chairs also have a romantic, Parisian feel. Just add soft music and subtle outdoor lighting for the perfect al fresco evening.
4. Amazonia Teak Dublin Outdoor Folding Chairs Set of 2.
Woven chairs have evolved from the extra-wide weave versions of yesteryear. Tight weaves are now the norm and are much more comfortable.
Like folding chairs, most woven chairs are lighter and can be both traditional and modern. I happen to love the play on the classic mid-century design on the left.
5. Palm Harbor Outdoor Wicker Stackable Armchair Set of 4.
From dining chairs to club chairs, outdoor patio chairs have come a long way from those synthetic woven numbers with metal tube framing that always got so hot that it could leave a mark on bare summer arms and legs. Ouch!
Today, let's talk about bedroom style. We can always count on Emily Henderson to create beautiful spaces that inspire us and challenge us to think about what our space is really capable of. Taking on a bedroom, she shows us the versatility of the space and the ease that goes into creating any mood you want. Below we will dissect her looks and show you how to get the perfect bedroom for you.
Whichever bedroom you gravitate toward, you can rest assured you have impeccable taste! All four are super stylish and what's better is they are easy to achieve.
The casual, collectors space utilizes neutral tones with warm accents and a touch of vintage inspiration. A casually strewn plaid cozy throw blanket makes this space inviting and comfortable. Hit your local flea market to find some well-maintained vintage suitcases and let them serve as your bedside table for a fun twist.
This stunning bedroom is fun, flirty, floral and feminine! Bright pops of color make a big impact in this bedroom, pushing you to wake up smiling and jump out of bed ready to conquer the day. Instead of a traditional nightstand, a woven accent table matches the oversized woven wall hanging to introduce another wonderful layer and texture to the space.
The dapper man's bedroom. Part mid-century, part geometric, part monochromatic, this bedroom is perfect for a bachelor or for a sleek and chic guest room. Simple hand drawn wall art is not overpowering in this streamlined space, yet the subtle depth of the geometric bedding allows for the perfect amount of movement and character.
Fringe, more fringe, brass and potted plants means any free-spirited, nature-lover will fall in love with this design. This bedroom style uses vintage inspired pendant lights to take the place of the more classic bedside table lamp and creates a collected, eclectic look. The neutral palette feels organic and earthy in the best way, and adding to that impact, the potted plants bring the outdoor life into this magical space.
How do YOU want to decorate your bedroom?

….aka Sometimes size really does matter. (Like with tall landscape lights, for example.)
Landscape lighting can completely transform the look of your home’s façade and yardscape beyond what is possible during the daylight hours.
Depending on what kinds of landscape lights you include in your exterior lighting plans, you can control the tone of your nighttime outdoor experience in a way that only strategically planned lighting can do.
It can be romantic. It can be mysterious. It can be high-drama. And landscape lighting can be purely functional as a security element to keeping your family safe at home.
With gardens growing this time of year, let’s talk about tall LED landscape lighting. There are more options than the traditional black carriage light that we all grew up with.
We had a light like this 60-inch tall landscape light when I was little. If I was a taller 3-year-old, you’d totally spot it. The big difference, of course, is that we didn’t have the option of an LED
Bellagio Tall Bronze LED Landscape Light
Landscape lights can be used to light pathways, driveways, and visually demarcate gardens. While those are the functional and easily justifiable reasons to shop for tall landscape lighting, there are more.
Taller landscape lights are easier to mow around, and if you want to let your grass grow a little taller to conserve water and energy, taller pathway lights can be a perfect choice.
For gardens that are blooming with sunflowers, other flowering plants and bushes that are bigger than a tulip, this kind of landscape light directs the light downward and shows off those beauties at night.
It can be a perfect romantic view for a cocktail on the deck.
And as an added bonus mature plants or snow won't cover these tall landscape lights.
1. The Hinkley Nexus bronze LED path light is 31 inches tall and swivels 90 degrees.
2. This mission-style landscape light from Kathy Ireland Home’s collection from J du J is just under 30 inches tall.
3. The Sheperd’s Crook design adds an organic element to a lighting plan.
After all is said and done, I tend to shop for lighting fixtures like some of my friends shop for shoes.
While some others may say, ‘That’s just another pair of black heels,’ it’s so not true to the shoe aficionado. Same goes for lighting geeks like me.
It’s not just another pathway light. There are nuances in the visual and technical details that can completely change the overall cohesion, comfort, and style statement, whether it’s a shoe or a light.
I hope you’ll find your perfect landscape light here at LampsPlus.com. Let me know what you find. –T

Rejoice - there are beautiful modern ceiling fans out there!
As with energy efficient lighting, ceiling fans have sometimes left a little to be desired in the design department.
I'm happy to see the trend leaning towards beautiful forms and sophisticated finishes. Ceiling fans are evolving into truly beautiful centerpieces for your room.
Casual and chic modern ceiling fans, like the beautifully contoured koa finish fan above are proof that fans are moving in a stylish direction.
The modern lines and rounded blades of this fan don't take up too much visual space in this living room as it blends into the ceiling color.
Modern ceiling fans can work well in traditional spaces too, as you can see above. The maple veneer blades of the stylish, and sleek fan pick up the cream tones in the room.
A brushed nickel finish on a contemporary fan looks great in a modern room. This clean-lined fan also comes with an energy-efficient light for the environmentally conscious.

Although it might not be the first thing to come to mind when thinking about landscape lighting, safety is a really important aspect to keep in mind when coming up with your outdoor lighting plan.
The most important areas to consider when placing outdoor lights for safety are paths, entries, driveways, and steps.
Low-voltage, LED or solar landscape lights are great ways to make sure people stick to the driveway and don’t accidentally drive onto the grass or your well-tended flower beds when they are driving up to your home.
Well lit paths are necessary as well as visually pleasing too, you don't want people to accidentally roll their ankles if they deviate from the, ahem, beaten path now do we?
1. This beautiful hammered bronze LED post light has the added bonus of being Dark Sky rated (click here to learn more about Dark Sky outdoor lighting.)
2. There are a lot of beautiful and functional copper landscape lights to be found, but I especially like this copper-finish bell path light.
3. This contemporary low voltage path light would look great outside a modern home.
4. The shallow shade of this modern LED pathway light allows it to blend into the landscape.
Your front entry is your chance to make a great first impression. A combination of hanging and wall lights will light your entryway beautifully and will look inviting as you approach. Put lights above or to the the side of all doors, e.g. the front door, side door, and back door -- lights positioned at all the doors help you see your way up the steps (if there are any) and allow you to identify who is at your door when looking out from the inside (light helps you get that pesky key in the lock too.)
1. This Amber Seedy Glass Outdoor Hanging Light from Rockford and its coordinating wall light provide wonderful ambient light to add warmth to your entryway.
2. I love the pared down Craftsmen-style of the Ledgewood Hanging Light and wall light.
3. The white frosted glass and stainless steel rings give the Saturn Steel Outdoor hanging and wall lights a decidedly contemporary feel.
4. This traditional Craftsmen-style lantern and wall light have seedy glass that provides a beautiful ambient glow.
Steps should be lit for safety -- I must admit I've taken a tumble (or two) when I couldn't clearly see the stairs outside at night. Outdoor step lights can be mounted on risers, treads or a wall that follows the path of the stairs. There are many attractive outdoor step lights out there. Here is a small selection:
1. This sleek LED step light will pair well with either traditional or contemporary designs.
2. The Kichler Half Moon Bronze LED light comes in either a bronze or textured white finish.
3. The light in this brushed nickel round LED step light bounces off the interior baffle to light your stairs with a subtle glow.
4. The low profile of this louvered brick step light allows it to blend in with the material of the stairs.
Landscape lighting is very important for safety reasons, but that doesn't mean it has to look utilitarian. The above examples show just how many beautiful options for landscape lights there are out there.

An organic island home is just the thing to fantasize about as we near the toasty warm summer months.
Domaine Home featured a beautiful home in the Greek isles in the organic interior design style that had my heart racing and was a fabulous example of elegant ease and charm.
Organic interior design usually exhibits a more casual design aesthetic.
Because these interiors embrace natural materials and form they are instantly relaxed and are more tactile. Don’t these cool, concrete floors yearn for bare feet?
I also like the play between hard and soft, smooth and rough. Remember balance is still important in a no-fuss environment. Rope pendant lights and rough hewn wood balance the stone details and soft linen furnishings.
Because it’s island living, even the most eco-designed home can do with a cool breeze provided by a classic ceiling fan.
It’s amazing that beautifully situated homes don’t need much in the way of decorating to seem special.
Amazing views preclude the need for window treatments and a monochromatic color scheme ensures that you focus on the environment...another way nature and organic elements win the day.
1. The Crestview Collection Twisted Rope Table Lamp begs to be touched!
2. Simple white walls can only be enhanced by the subtle Quoizel Sheath Fresco Wall Sconce.
3. The organic home should have plenty of linen or at least linen shades like the one found on the Hinkley Hampton Collection Pendant Light.
4. I love small tables like the Priestly Distressed White Rectangular End Table. You always need a spot to place a drink or pair of glasses.
5. The organic kitchen would look even better with one or more of the Harper Stone Wash Barstool.
You don't need to have breathtaking views in the Greek isles to enjoy the organic design style. You can create the style's casual design aesthetic anywhere from urban settings to the countryside.

With spring in full bloom and summer around the corner, lets discuss your outdoor porch space. Everyone loves an indoor/outdoor space that feels more like a part of the house than a separate entity.
Whether you have a full on outdoor porch or a sunroom with large windows this space is about to become the number one spot for the season.
Grand views are always a plus for your outdoor space, but definitely not necessary. Above we see beautiful lake views as well as residential street views and both are equally dreamy.
These spaces opt for comfort and family time without being too 'designed' or too 'country'.
They are contemporary and clean with attention to details like color coordinated outdoor pillows and stylish outdoor lighting.
These country cabins are the epitome of long summer nights with family. The muted tones perfectly compliment the natural surroundings.
Above everything, the furniture and space planning is perfect for game night with the whole family.
The two sunrooms above take elements of the traditional home and intermix them with modern sensibility and design.
Bright white walls feel fresh and current while pops of oranges and reds ground and unify the space.
In a sunroom adding a casual and chic modern ceiling fan can bring the feel of the outdoors in, even when it may be too hot or too cold to open the windows.
If details are your thing, these last two porches are for you. Every detail is meticulously thought through as the space is created so that the outdoor porch becomes a second living room.
Both even feature a grand outdoor fireplace to keep warm on cool spring nights.

Outdoor patio fountains can transform backyards into works of art with the beauty of a sculpture combined with the calming effects of a waterfall.
With a range of styles and materials, there’s a fountain for everyone.
Here are some of my favorite peaceful outdoor patio fountains.
1 – A tabletop fountain is perfect when you’re short on space, and this Buddha has the added benefit of color changing LED lights.
2 – Water cascades down this fountain's copper leaves creating a restful sound.
3 – A bed of river rocks are the backdrop on this urban style fountain.
4 – Water flows from the mouths of three lions on this whimsical metal fountain.
5 – I love the lion’s head and the classic design of this two-tiered fountain.
6 – The three dramatic tiers on this fountain would make an impressive focal point in any traditional garden.
7 – This contemporary copper fountain stands an impressive 7 ½ feet tall and is calming in it’s understated simplicity.
Choose a fountain to fit your taste and budget then sit back, close your eyes and enjoy the serenity that a patio fountain brings to any space.
