Decorating for the Dog Days

Dog in Suitcase

While “Dog Days” usually refer to the most sultry time of the summer, I like to think of decorating for the dog days as meaning what’s hot for fido.  Let’s face it, your poor pet is walking around with a fur coat while you don shorts and a tee.  Perhaps it’s time to treat your pooch to something posh.  When it comes to pampering the family pet, there are several approaches you can take. Now, I’m not here to judge, I’m simply here to discuss options and show you what’s possible.

Custom Dog House

How amazing is this custom dog house built right into the custom millwork bookcase?  Now, if you really loved your dog...I almost forgot, I’m not here to judge.  Seriously though, this is a fantastic way to disguise a dog bed that may otherwise be in the way or always under foot.  Converting the lower shelves of a bookcase into a dog house/bed is simple and chic.

Spanish Style Dog House

If a trip to the south of Spain is not in the budget this summer, why not treat your dog to a Mediterranean-style trip of their own in your backyard?  Whip up a paella for yourself and watch the fun begin.  This is a far cry from four walls and a roof.  Naturally, when it comes to this level of pampering, and assuming your pet prefers to be outdoors, any style is possible.  From Cape Cod to Victorian, there are endless ways to spoil the family dog.

Greener Dog Bed

If you prefer to keep your dog indoors, eco-friendly dog beds are a great option.   You can feel good about yourself when you help save the planet by letting your dog snooze sur the planet.  A bit of heaven on earth, don’t you think?

Uttermost Beau Pet Bed

For the more pensive pooch, I think a clubby, more library-like bed is on order. Not only is like a piece of real furniture, it is forgiving when it comes to wear and tear.  Although it is not a summer style, per se, it is practical and I suppose if it is in an air conditioned space, who am I to judge?
