Unique Christmas Decor Ideas

While I do love this time of year, I'm not always a big fan of the traditional red and green holiday decor that comes with it. I prefer to take a nontraditional approach to Christmas decor. You can make your home glow and feel festive in so many creative ways. Here are a few of my top unique Christmas decor ideas.

Unique Christmas Decor Ideas by Erin Hiemstra

Tip One: Use Christmas ornaments in places other than on your tree! I love hanging ornaments in windows or over table tops straight from the chandelier. This is a particularly fun option for your holiday parties {though I tend to leave mine up the entire season!}

Tip Two: Create a creative holiday vignette. Your Christmas tree doesn't have to be your only focal point. Or perhaps you live in an apartment that doesn't allow trees at all! Do not despair. With just a little ribbon you can create a star, tree or any imagery you prefer on your wall! Surround the area with some shimmery candles in decorative candle holders and maybe a few homemade ornaments and you'll immediately get into the Christmas spirit.

Tip Three: Color coordinate. I love the look of monochromatic Christmas decor. It's modern and chic. And there's no easier way to accomplish this than to simply group all your favorite Christmas baubles by color and place them on decorative plates or bowls around your home. They'll add a lovely glow to every corner they sit in!

Here are few of the favorite pieces I'd love to add to my Christmas decor collection.

  • Thank You for your ideas.  I too love to use candles in decorative candle holders, and use homade ornamentst.

  • So much you can do with baubles - hang them off the ends of curtain rails, around windows, add a few to liven up a tired old Christmas wreathe.
