This low voltage recessed housing with thermal protector must be used in any ceiling with insulation. The junction box creates an airtight space between the inner fixture and the insulation; for direct contact with insulation. Airtight construction prevents airflow between the attic and living areas and limits air exchange between the plenum and heated or air-conditioned areas with double wall housing construction. Unless there is access from an attic above, the size of the J-box makes insulated housings suitable only for new construction applications.
