Would this fixture be sufficient for a small kitchen table? How much light shines on the surface below?

Is the top open for light to shine up as well as down?
Also, I have a 9' x 5' island and are considering this light. I have two electrical boxes above the island. Are two light sufficient?

BEST ANSWER: Hi, the light does emit from the top and bottom. Two of these will be sufficient for an island that size.
what is the height from the bottom of the lamp to the top where the chain comes out?

BEST ANSWER: The height of the fixture from the first loop to the bottom of the fixture is 14 inches.
Does any light shine thru the drum? Does the bulb shine down on surface or up to ceiling? Does the metal get hot to touch? Does it cllean well or require special cleaning in order to not remove the finish?

BEST ANSWER: The light doesn't shine through the drum. The bottom is open and has no diffuser. If you use LED bulbs, it will minimize any heat output. Just clean with a damp cloth - do not use any harsh cleaners.
Would 2 of these lights be appropriate over a 10 foot long kitchen island? I plan on using LED bulbs and currently have can lights in the ceiling as well. For the island I am looking for bulbs that shine down on the counter but I would like some light coming thru the shade.

BEST ANSWER: For a 10'ft long island I would recommend using 3 of these lights.

BEST ANSWER: The 16" measurement would refer to the diameter. It is the width of the fixture.
does this have a plug as well or just hard-wired?

BEST ANSWER: The chandelier is hardwire only but can be converted to plug-in.
How long is the chain? Can this be hung like a swag light?

BEST ANSWER: I think the chain was at least 5 feet, maybe 6. I used about 3 feet and a lot left over. It's easy to cut down to be there size you need. I would imagine with the linked chain you could use it like a swag.

Modern Rustic
This was the perfect blend between stylish and rustic. I installed this in the bedroom, close to the ceiling with a silver bowl bulb. I also put the fixture on a dimmer switch for great ambiance. The inside of the drum is finished in a taupe/soft gold color. This finish, along with the silverbowl bulb, makes a soft uplight glow. See attached pict.

I'm in love with a light fixture
Not enough words to describe how beautiful this fixture is. We are building a house so I don't have it up yet, but I just keep taking it out of the box to look at how gorgeous this fixture is!!

Lovely, different, gets lots of comments
We get so many comments on how beautiful this light is. It has an industrial feel, but "old-world" too. It goes great in our transitional kitchen nook where we have gray-ish walls and brown wood table. Wonderful colors blend well with our kitchen granite which has streaks of blue in it. Very happy with this lamp.
